National Geographic has just announced that they’re cancelingThe Dog Whisperer, the long running show where Cesar Millan claims to “rehabilitate dogs, and train people.”
I’d say it’s more like he kicks dogs and confuses people. But whatever! The guy’s got charisma! So much so that the channel is bringing him back on a different show they’re introducing:Leader of the Pack. The good news is that this reality program will focus on a worthy cause: finding new homes for homeless dogs. The bad news is that it turns the adoption process into a game show.
I went to CesarMillan.com to learn more. But that site is owned by a karate/aerobics instructor from Madrid.
So, I went to CesarsWay.com, where I learned that the new show, which is also produced by National Geographic, will involve:
Trainingthe families from the UK, Italy and the Netherlands who are hoping to give the dogs a new lease on life. Three families from each country willtravelto Spain for each episode to compete for the chance to adopt one special pup, and their dog skills will be put to the test. Millan will evaluate each potential adoptee through a series of assessments designed to gauge their canine compatibility — and identify any red flags — before choosing the dog’s best match.
Wha? First of all, aren’t there enough adoptable dogs out there so that all of these people can get a dog without having to compete for it? Rhetorical question. Yes! Yes, there are.
What’s more, there are enough adoptable dogs in each of those countries to warrant an entire series. And enough potential dog owners, too. Why are they shipping families from all these different countries to Spanish dog pounds? Is that all Spain has to offer its European brethren now? A single homeless pup?Ugh.
Cesar Millan, nothing you do makes sense to me. I’ve heard other Positive Reinforcement trainers say that publicly speaking out against Cesar Millan is uncouth because it comes off sounding like “sour grapes.” So, let me be clear, Cesar: I’m not jealous of you. I wouldn’t want your fame or cult following. And dogs enjoy my company, I’m guessing more than they do yours, judging by the unhappy facial expressions and body language of the dogs you pose with on book covers and promo photos (see above). Indeed, I don’t covet anything you have in your life. I just think you’re an imbecile who has poorly guided more dog owners out there than any other single trainer I can think of. I could be all bullet point-y about why I dislike you, but I’ve done that before. It’s too late tonight, and I’m too tired from a day spent teaching happy dogs. So, tonight, I’m not hating you about anything specific. I am just stating that I find you just generally to be a confounding, repulsive man. It’s just a freeform loathing feeling that reached a kind of snarling apex tonight when I watched your smarmy mugging at the camera in the promo for your new show.
Okay, rant over. On a nicer note, I kind of likethe below ads, which I came across recently. They’re for a past season of Millan’s show, The Dog Whisperer. But, even if they’re kind of funny at first glance, they–like everything else Millan does!–are misguided and misleading: I don’t see a single “issue” here that would actually bother a dog, let alone warrant training. Which is good, because training guidance is the last thing I hope viewers of this show are seeking.

Wow you have a lot of Hate, maybe your just jealous because Cesar is a famous dog trainer and nobody really knows who you are. You really should stop hating so much you would feel alot better about yourself. Meany
Thank so much for putting that guy in check ; )
You are soooo right!!! Cesar is Gods gift to dogs, thank God for him!!!! What the h…. Dogs love him, they understand his messages, this jerk is extremely jealous!!!!!
Sandy, I agree with you. If it wasn’t for Ceasar Milan’s techniques, the chihuahua I adopted would have been euthanized. People treat chihuahuas as babies so by the time I adopted him this dominant, nervous dog drew blood everytime you got near him. He went after babies, he was food agressive, he even went after other dogs. It took only two weeks of Cesar Milan’s techniques to turn my dog into an amazing companion who loves everyone!
Dogs aren’t people – they think differently. You have to think like a dog to have a balanced, happy dog.

Here Here! your just a never was
Seriously Mrs Grossman, you may not agree with Cesar’s methods, but you shouldn’t be so full of hate and venom for a man that clearly loves dogs. You are obviously speaking emotionally, because your knowledge in this area seems to be sadly lacking. You could only wish to have such a positive impact on the dog world as the great man himself. Cesar we love you……from Bailey , Bliss and Blue (the happy pack).
Yeah you Cesar haters, you just don’t understand him trying to help the dogs in need. Many dogs owners would of give up on their dogs. It’s not fair for a few dogs who needs a bit of training to miss out on the wonderful life they could have.
Yeah, Cesar is an amazing dog trainer and I have learned a lot from him, others can learn from him too
You have to be one of the most uninformed, mightier than thou, crappy journalists I’ve had the missfortune of reading! You complain about Cesar and his show but what the hell are you doing to save dogs…..besides bad mouthing people who are actually doing something to help! Go back to watching “The Jersey Shore” and leave the real writing to the profesionals honey.
I absolutely agree with you! Your very funny!
The person who wrote this crap has absolutely no idea about dogs! I have been really disappointed to see articles on the internet criticizing Cesar! The dogs love him! I have tears in my eyes when I see dogs laying by his side and feeling safe after a very short amount of time and the owner is right there! People who criticize Cesar are clueless and very hateful people that know nothing about dogs! I am old and have never known being without dogs and I have learnt so much from him! I rescue rottweilers that have been ordered to be put down due to aggression! I love Cesar and can see exactly what he is talking about and he is right! If you can not centre yourself and become at peace with yourself then you will never understand this man!
Thank you, could not have said it better.

Thanks for clearly articulating the rant that has been going on in my head for ages!
Fully agree … Millan is a misogynist, a bully, a bad trainer, and a force for evil in the world. I despair every time I see some ignorant dog owner on the street making that weird TSSSHHHT sound and poking hell out of his dog.
When does Patricia McConnell get a show on NatGeo, hmmm??? That’s when I’ll start watching that channel again.
you dumbass
You need to get off your soapbox and let professionals like Cesar save dogs!! What the hell are you contributing to besides your own ego???
Ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!
jealousy !!!!!!
Jealous much? It shows big-time lol….
What is wrong with you? Cesar is a great man, so what if the owners say that annoying tsshhh sound? It works. You can’t argue with things that bring good.
Came across this coincidentally. I have a few things to say,
I get people not fully agreeing with Cesar’s methods, I really do but when I look at Cesar, he gets a lot of venom from a lot of snakes such as this one but his responses are always very polite and understanding.
If a person does not accept that Cesar Millan saved thousands, probably tens of thousands of dogs from certain death, then that person needs to do some serious research. So, I ask myself, whether they like his methods or not, how can so called ‘dog lovers’ have so much blind hate for a person who has devoted his whole life to dogs and saved so many of them.
Do you have ANY idea how many ‘positive’ dog trainers make people uthinize dogs? Including the famous Victoria, I bet to this day ‘positive’ dog trainers have made owners uthinize tens of thousands of dogs which Cesar Millan could have saved.
The most important indicator that Cesar is following nature’s way is that absolutely no dog is scared of him. Even my own dog, whom I have never laid a finger on gets anxious when he has an accident on the carpet but the dogs Cesar looks after are always extremely eager to follow him and be around him. Dogs would NOT do that if his methods were wrong or cruel.
Dogs are not glass that will shatter at the slightest physical warning. Dogs are tough as hell, tougher than humans. Dogs are wild and instinctual, they don’t rationalize. You have to stop humanizing dogs. You don’t reason with a dog, you don’t take a dog to a shrink. Dogs have their own natural ways of being and those ways should be the ways we use with them. It does NOT hurt a dog when you alpha roll him, or pull on his choke collar, or touch him. You could do all of these things to me and it wouldn’t hurt a bit. You know what does hurt? A bite that comes from an untrained dog who’s owners try to make their dogs sit while he is trying to kill another dog.
I myself have proved that dominance exists, to myself. I have a golden retriever, I practice Cesar’s way and my mom doesn’t. I go to school out of town so my mom looks after my dog most of the time. When I’m not home, he’s always going crazy, barking constantly wanting things. The moment I set foot in the house all the bad behaviour instantly goes away. No barking to order anybody around, lies down silently while I put on my shoes to take him out, waits for me to lead him out the door and outside. What’s most important is that he is with me in my room and doesn’t go where my mom is unless I go there. Not to mention I haven’t had to practice any kind of physical touch for years now, not even once. I did it for a month at first, than I only used the sound from then on. He was my first dog and we had thousands of problems, it had even been an issue to give him up until I found out about the Dog Whisperer and all our lives changed.
So STFU. No one even knows you. I paid over 2000 Euro’s to trainers that didn’t help me at all. Cesar made this home a happy one so who the hell are you to critisize him? What the hell have you done for me or for tens of thousands of people and their dogs around the globe? Teaching the neighboors dog to sit as an accomplishment.
You are all jealous failures that have accomplished nothing for dogs other than teaching a few of them to sit – which means absolutely nothing to them.
Not everybody would agree with Cesar’s methods and that’s okay as hell but anybody who *hates* Cesar Millan would see a million dogs put to sleep rather than have their ego’s harmed.
My thoughts put into comment. Thanks for sharing! I agree 100%. Well said 🙂
im sure your post was thoughtful and well written, but i couldnt get past the fact that you did not spell euthanize correctly. youre on a computer, presumably with spell check and certainly with access to the internet. how could you not spell it correctly?
the grammar nazi.
Really? You’ve got to be kidding. First of all, grammatical errors do not detract from the content of the post. Secondly, you didn’t capitalize anything, nor did you use any apostrophes. Get over yourself.
Wow, this makes me wonder if you have ever even seen the show – maybe ‘you’ were confused. Again – he says the problem is with the people, not the dog – so some people may just not have enough intelligence to understand what he does. Perhaps you are one of those people who treats their dog like a little baby instead of the dog that he is, one of those people who contribute to the problem. btw, glad you figured out that you need to go to the correct website, and not just assume that the url you are typing in goes to the one that you want. Those assumptions certainly do make people look stupid.
If you actually think some people are not intelligent enough to understand what he does, then doesn’t that mean some people out there might need a different method? Also, don’t forget about the fact that a large majority of people don’t know anything about canine body language, and do not treat dogs appropriately. It is better to get your dog used to being around people who will not respect him as a dog, or treat him like a child, so that he doesn’t feel threatened by these people, thus less likely to bite anyone. I used to use Cesar’s techniques, exercising my dog vigorously on a daily basis and correcting for reactive behaviour toward other dogs, as well as jumping up on people. A year and a half went by and all I had accomplished was making her worse. I made her dread seeing another dog or person because she was going to get corrected, but she was still uncomfortable around the other dogs and did not know how to behave in a way that she would be able to avoid correction. Correcting your dog into silence does not make their anxiety and fears go away – it only makes them try to avoid correction.
Also, for anybody who thinks correcting on a choke chain, prong collar or e-collar is not painful, why don’t you give it a try on yourself? Give someone the leash and let them yank it hard enough to move your body. Or, put the collar on and run to the end of the leash full force. I don’t need to be told dogs are tougher than humans – to me, that is an excuse to not try it out for yourself. Look it up, research has been done, and studies conclude that a majority of dogs who have worn corrective collars have soft tissue damage in the neck, as well as alignment issues in the cervical spine. Don’t dismiss this and allow your dog to suffer injury at your hands, in the name of being dominant. There are safe devices out there that allow you full physical control over your dog without hurting him, like head halters and front-attachment harnesses.
I found a method that works for me and my dog, and it is all positive reinforcement. I use an Easy Walk Harness, which prevents her from pulling by turning her around if she tries, and I use the Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT) and Control Unleashed (Look at That! game) methods for reducing reactivity. It is hard, because I don’t have the appropriate dogs to work with, but at least I have made progress, and can actually get a response from my dog when we are around dogs and people. My dog is happy to work with me, and is confident in my ability to keep her safe. Before, nobody was keeping her safe. Dogs were scary, and I was scary, too. I can’t imagine how alone and unprotected she felt. She no longer has to worry though. She also no longer jumps on anyone. I never have to raise my voice to get her attention, nor do I have to use any sort of physical reprimand. Mostly this is because she behaves appropriately 90% of the time. The other 10%, I can give her a command which she will respond to in order to get her out of trouble.
See AlsoWhy Was the Dog Whisperer Cancelled? (2023) - We Love Doodles7 Real Reasons Why The Dog Whisperer Was Canceled (2023)It’s really easy to train a dog using positive reinforcement, and no, you do not have to have treats on you at all times. I use the leash as a tug toy for when she does an awesome job ignoring dogs on walks, and I can use environmental rewards (such as continuing the walk, or allowing her to sniff), for good behaviour. She also does not get to go outside, play with a toy or greet people without doing what I say first. I control everything she wants, and that makes me her leader. Maybe it sounds overcontrolling at first, but it’s simply a way of life now for both of us, and my dog gets a lot of freedom. Using dominance methods, you have to be on top of your dog for things too, though. If you’ve got to be your dog’s leader 24/7 either way, why not do it in a way that is non-harmful, that breeds true respect and trust, instead of resorting to physical punishment that leads to fear and avoidance?
You didn’t watch all the shows or perhaps understand their message. First of all, the show starts out by telling everyone that they should not use the methods shown without the consultation of an expert. Secondly, Cesar, does not always use the same methods on every dog. He determines the sensitivity of a dog and how quickly a dog adjusts to corrections before implementing a rehab strategy. On one show, a family had what they thought was an aggressive large dog and the man was totally manhandling the dog. Cesar used a simple leash and minor corrections to divert the dog’s attention. Message to the Owner of the dog was that the Owner was being too forceful with a sensitive dog, who accepts corrections quickly. I have seen Cesar using food to distract the dog, or the scent of the food to distract a dog. Obviously, your dog is not a red zone dog. Did you ever invest in a talking to a professional about your dog’s behavior as recommended by the show?
Irene, you seem a bit simple-minded. The answer to your first question is, if some people aren’t intelligent enough to understand what Cesar does, then maybe they shouldn’t own dogs. Second, I support what Anna says. Cesar (and most other dog trainers, for that matter) emphasize that although all dogs are pack animals, every dog is different. If you had paid closer attention to your dog, reading her body language, you probably would have discovered more quickly that a few soft corrections would have sufficed. I, on the other hand, have an obdurate Dachshund who, after a few weeks of non-response to the modest suasion I would employ with a gentle Golden Retriever, only started to fall into line when I incorporated some hard physical checks. He is now in love and will heel off-leash for moderate stretches when we walk (only someone familiar with Dachshunds will appreciate that achievement, I think, as they are headstrong dogs).
The point is, a dog is not a person. A dog is a dog. I repeat that only because your arguments show us that you failed to grasp that fact (“Have you ever tried a choke collar on yourself?” you ask. That’s irrelevant because a choke collar isn’t meant for a human; it’s meant for a dog.)
Fulfill a dog’s needs qua dog, and you get a happy dog. Cesar’s not the first to recognize that fact, but he’s certainly been the most successful in propagating it, and for that, I salute him.
You are an absolute idiot! Why don’t you try doing something good that can actually make a difference in the lives of others like Ceaser does…. Your views, are a complete waste of time, serving nothing but to bring others down to your low level energy state of being. You likely don’t even own a dog. They would have all disowned you! Get a life… And stop wasting ours!!! And that goes for whoever consented to the publishing of this article as well…. Do you really believe these dogs ceaser worked with we’re happier in their unbehaved state? When they weren’t getting the love from their owners b/c of the bad behavior?!!! Duh!!! It doesn’t take a genius to see that both the dogs and owners, neighbors, families and friends all benefited by ceaser correcting the bad behavior.
If you get of your high chair for just a second you may be able to see what all the owners of these dogs see…. And that’s that Ceaser Milan is the Top Dog trainer in the world, he will always be… And no one can come close to his ability- nor will they ever come close!! Certainly not you- your show would be joke titled dogs in chaos… Owners going out of their minds…. Titled, “the right way” b/c I said so. ( …. Ya see, ” I’m a journalist;)” )
I don’t understand why all the passionate negative commentators who disagree with Grossman’s point of view resort to ad hominem attacks rather than clearly articulated counter-arguments. That doesn’t seem to be very mature. And also most of the negative commentators refuse to apply the correct usage of “your” and “you’re,” which belies at the very least lack of respect of proper grammar. Isn’t dog training highly subjective, given the myriad schools of thought surrounding the discipline? Grossman is expressing a point of view, yet rather than formulating succinct and articulate comments which argue tangible different point of views defending their point of views, the acolytes of Millan resort to insult. I am not so sure Millan himself would appreciate the sort of defense you offer, disciples.
you’re an asshole
he wrote he “hates Cesar”, so…. that’s why he got the bites Y(^^)Y
and Mr. Millan has no resposible for the bites ^^
You go girl!!!! Yea for Cesar!!!
You’re an Asssshooooole, got the grammar?????
lol…and you are obviously the expert in knowing.
Lmao I was thinking the same thing by the time he said articulate haha chilllll nobody’s impressed xD
He’s got plenty of money now, fooling around with girls that look like his ex wife used to , has to go to Europe for shows now as they don’t want him in the US. Wow , What a life!!
maybe you’re jealous because you’re not one of those women with whom he spends his money
Jealous are you???
Are you really hateful of someone elses life? Oh and by the way marrages fail poor rich whatever, but Ceasar is from an other country and yes probally America is one of the only countries that treats dogs they way we do. I guess world studies was never your forte oh ya, that is right your to busy judging, coventing, envying what others have. Ps as for me grammer is over rated as with spelling.
Perhaps u should try to watch some DW series like the one with a dog name “Nasir”
Cesar was soft as butter with that poor dog which was advised to be put down (according to the owner Patty labelle),
He never gave any kind of correction to Nasir (AT ALL), as Cesar said “Nasir was just being missunderstood”… instead of aggresion, what Nasir has is a “PEACE” energy, it’s just that he’s afraid too much to trust other people/dogs/animal.
afterward, what Cesar provided for Nasir rehabilitation was just patient and patient and patient, then exercise, exercise, exercise and passion and passion, and then lots and lots and lots of affection. Nasir is now in a great shape, walking around the neighbourhood with no issue at all – thank to Cesar and his patient toward the missunderstood Nasir.
– there’s also Nasir’s trainer coming along to Cesar’s DPC, said she has read lots of book about dogs behaviours, dogs training, and everything is contradict eachother untill she saw Cesar’s packs, then sudenly she saw the missing puzzle. There’s time on the show that Cesar himself said “Please do not try this alone, bcause what i do is very instinctional”
or when he said to the owner “that’s why i have always said please look for a professional help”, then the owner said “You’re the profesional of the profesionals”
Also, there’s an owner who had tried everything, using cesar’s method, seek profesionals help, do the clicker stuff, etc etc but none of it actually worked, Cesar response was “every dog is different, what most important is you need to be patient”,
thus, he showed the owner that it did take time, and what overwhelmed me was, turned out Cesar has bigger affection to the dog than the owner did. when normally the owner would pull the dog, Cesar, in contrast, loose the leash and patiently wait untill it walked on its own will (he showed the same passion during a shoot in puppy mill episode, when the assistant would just love to carry it to the kennel, Cesar saidOh, and you should watch Cesar’s packs queue for a bath with Cesar…… they just sit there patiently. No wonder though…. when you see Cesar bathed them, it seemed like sooooooo much fun, soooo much affection and care… the body massage, in particular, oh boy…. i myself would love to have one 😀
never in my life i saw anyone bath their dogs the way Cesar does, his haters could say he fake it or whatever, but dogs can tell when people is sincere or not….. his packs wont follow him everywhere if it’s a negative experience to be around him
and the controversial “ShadoW”….. gosh, that dog keep asking for a neck massage from Cesar to the point whenever Cesar removed his hand, it would touch cesar with its foot like saying “i want more of those”…. cesar and the owner were laughing at its cute behavior ^^So, please dont hate so much….. there are reasons why his supporters admire him, very devoted and very defensive, infact, there are too many reasons, not bcoz we’re blindy worship him…. his fans are not stupid, many are profesionals too ^^
there is big difference when you see the entire series to when you see only some eps posted by Cesar’s detractorsbut of course…. that’s my point of view, the battle of love and hate will still continue
i will stay in my calm submisive state of mind…. hehe…!!! ^^The problems with Cesar: 1- He really loves and understands the dogs as dogs, not babies or children or people and 2- He has a TALENTED GIFT, same way as people play piano or sing well without going to school. Cesar’s energy is very calm and zen, but assertive. That is the reason why his methods still might not work. It is never the dogs, it is always the owners, that might not love enough, or be zen and calm enough. The dogs sense when someone is afraid, strong, assertive. The other trainers are not loving enough, patient enough or zen enough and nothing works for most serious cases. Anyone can train a dog to sit, but how many can save dogs with more serious behaviors?
I am very confused, pls explain…
“Cesar Milan, famous dog whisperer: …
“Yeah, but this is a different breed…the power that comes behind bull dog, pit bull, presa canario, the fighting breed – They have an extra boost, they can go into a zone, they don’t feel the pain anymore. He is using the bulldog in him, which is way too powerful, so we have to ‘make him dog’ (I guess as in a “regular” dog) so we can actually create the limits. So if you are trying to create submission in a fighting breed, it’s not going to happen. They would rather die than surrender.”. If you add pain, it only infuriates them..to them pain is that adrenaline rush, they are looking forward to that, they are addicted to it… That’s why they are such great fighters.”
Cesar goes on to say…“Especially with fighting breeds, you’re going to have these explosions over and over because there’s no limits in their brain.”
Please tell me that you have watched most of the shows. Cesar speaks very often of a dog’s energy level, state of mind, etc. Most breeders understand when you speak of energy levels when you request a certain level energy dog. Unfortunately, some animal shelters are unable to assess or communicate to an adopter the energy level of a dog, its personality, history etc. No fault of the shelters – thank goodness we have shelters. However, sometimes animal shelter dogs are selected based on cuteness, color, breed likeness etc. Problems occur when unseasoned owners adopt the powerful breed dog, who has a high energy level for example. My understanding is that Cesar says some, not all powerful breed dogs because of their genetics can go into a red zone. It is the responsibility of the owner to handle his/her dog, understand the dog’s body signals, discipline and exercise the dog, so the dog knows the limits. Cesar believes dogs can be prevented by their owners into going into a red zone. How can one disagree with discipline and exercise? If you had a child that was running around biting his classmates, would you give him a cookie for his behavior? No. Cesar’s techniques are meant to assist the owner in not having to give up the dog or have the dog put to sleep. Again, I think Cesar’s techniques are amongst many others and one should work with a trainer to better understand their dog, learn the basics and then see if Cesar’s techniques work for your dog. Cesar is not critical of other training methods, in fact he uses them, if you have watched the shows.
Seems as though you could use some training in regards to your aggression and bad manners. Back to basic butt sniffing for you.
I NEED HELP WITH MY PUPPY CEASER!
I think most of the comments above have made it clear just how poorly written and uninformed your comments are.
I’d suggest that if this is the best you can do, you really need to stop throwing stones and find something to do that you’re (at the very least) competent at.
Quite a spiteful article. You do realize he has done thousands of hours of work with dogs to help them from their issues, not just a tv show the actual rescue center that has been in operation there does great work.
The Earth isn’t a contest to see who is better than who at what…you should respect any and all animal welfare workers who simply are just trying to give a helping hand to those animals in need. Who else does? No one.
During hurricane Katrina Cesar did some great work with people to help some of the dogs there, obviously it is too huge of a task for one person to undertake but the fact he does these things consistently deserves a great deal of respect.
BTW his method of training dogs is the most positive and successful i’ve ever seen, you can easily see the dogs find themselves comfortable when working with him and looking at their body language they love him!
I suggest you take your head out your butt! =)
Wow. What a patronizing article. You are not focused on the dogs, your ego is in this article. What a shame. Seems you could learn thing or two from Mr. Millan.
Typiacal liberal B.S. , oh and your a women too. “Love the world and it will love you back” You know lady, the Federation of planets is a great idea too, but not likley to happen.
Positive reinforcement does work, i’ve seen him use it.
Thousands of years of evolution isn’t going to be reversed in a culture that wants to treat dogs like people. It’s confusing and Ceaser proved it.
So dress up your dog, put him in your purse and speak baby talk to him if it works for you. But for the rest of us who adopted F-ed up dogs from people like you, he has articulated a clear language dogs understand… and it isn’t torture. He only uses that technique for the most difficult and aggressive dogs and even then he doesn’t over use it., like the morons you see on the street.
Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water, take what he has learned, and use it to help the special cases instead of putting them down.please see link- To see how Ms. Grossman treats her own dog…Now THATS torture to a dog.
Yeah….she can see if a dog happy or not by looking at his face. Right. lolLOL. This is a great comment! Thx!
Thanks Duzzi for sharing the link.
I had my doubts about the author of this article but your link confirmed my suspicions.
Check out the author’s blog post : http://www.schoolforthedogs.com/2014/05/16/idog-classes-this-weekend-at-tekserve.This is really funny they have iDog classes with “loaner iPads”!!
No wonder they are “certified” dog trainer “professionals”!! 🙂
The author of this is a complete idiot, and as much as they claim not be be jealous of Ceaser, the jealousy shows, so say what you will, but know that to most your just a jealous babbling fool!
Dude It’s not jealousy, Pure Ignorance borderline STUPIDITY.
anna jane you truly are gross, man and so green with jealously that the cows would eat you.. My granddaughter and I have watched Ceaser for years and he hasnt ever mistreated a dog. I personally dont know how he is so patient with the people especially and the poor dogs that are stressed to the point they are behaviour problems. My granddaughter who is now 11 uses Ceaser’s methods with her two dobermans . Guess what it works!! If you put as much effort into your business as you have into trying to tear Ceaser down you might be sucessful someday too. you are pathetic and have no respect for your own dog that you dress up and backpack like he was some tottlers stuffed toy. Poor little guy, you make him look like the fool you are. Shame on you
Anna you are a clueless hateful Ignorant person. Dogs would not like you, They just know your at the bottom of pack and do as they say. You think these dogs are abused. Because they go into a submissive position. Have you never watched 2 dogs play. One always goes to submissive then they having order. How can you say it’s wrong unnatural or cruel. It’s how a dog learns pecking order. Being submissive is ok.
You are one scary lady, I really hope you do not breed and spread your IGNORANCE.Ok Your poor yorkie. I know understand you after seeing your picture.
Girl you would allow many to be injured over lack of training. I guarantee you your dog does not walk without a leash. Jumps on furniture. Climbs on people and furniture (beds)s. Your dog barks incisively annoys others and you think it’s cute. Im sure your little dog nips at people and you think it’s cute.
Anna you are such a young ignorant twit you have no right to speak of things you have no knowledge of.
YOU ONLY STATED A OPINION!! I am so mad it is not even funny. Your dog is the abused dog. Please.
You young non thinking self absorbed twit.OPPS NOT A YORKIE. Im truly sorry I raise Rottweilers and I have a Yorkie staying with us. I accidently said the wrong breed cause he was in my lap . I was distracted thinking of him in a back pack getting smashed with a stupid helmet on. Girl you need help.
I understand that some people might not approve of certain methods for training, but to say you hate someone you don’t even know is immature. Hating a celebrity is a waste of time, and honestly if you care so much for dogs then stop being a media addict and go out there and prove people wrong about his methods. All bark, no bite. You might not agree with his methods but he is actually trying to make a difference with action not some useless article like this. Your anger in the article shows you are incapable of being unbiased and just hurts your point instead of helping. Good luck living in bitterness and ignorance.
I agree with every word you wrote. And no, I’m not jealous either. You couldn’t pay me enough to treat dogs the way he does.
Then i hope you don’t own a dog! It’s amazing how dumb some of you are. He treats dogs how they naturally live and feel comfortable! Morons like you who treat their dogs like humans and dress them up are what is wrong with dog owners and why so many are put to sleep.
I think he’s an awesome man. He’s got it down! He knows what he’s doing and I respect him totally! Love me some Ceser! More dog owners need to watch his show! A good, well mannered dog, is one that is welcomed!
I liked Cesar and the DW show a lot before he and Illusion split.
If he can’t keep his own pack balanced and together… why would I trust him to help mine??His shows seems to be getting more extreme, now, too…
I’m sorry to say, but I agree, it’s time for his show to end. 🙁Are you KIDDING me?????? Let’s hear all the ways he TORTURES dogs, seriously. What an idiot. I guess everyone is entitled to have their own IDIOT opinion. Mine is that you’re the confused one. Have you EVER seen the show, I am baffled that anybody can say that about him!!!!!!!!! He has helped MILLIONS of people and his advice is completely sound and did respond to him INSTANTLY!!!!!!!
You do have a lot of hate! It is not the first post you’re writing about Cesar! My opinion is that you’re totally jealous. You need to be trained!!!ha ha
This article did not influence me to dislike Ceaser at all. This man came in 1995 from Mexico with no English and $100 in cash, and accomplished 500% more in 10 years for dogs, than 85% of Americans born here whose mommy and daddy paid them the living until they decided to grow up. He came with nothing… how can you not see that had he been anything else other than passionate and real, he would not make it? All odds were against him. This also shows, that one man can make a huge difference in the world! Let him be, admire transformation he is causing, see the passion he shares, enjoy, learn, see, because he is real. I also like his life philosophies, trust, respect and loyalty. Since I saw the DW, I could not stop watching. What Ceaser does is transformational for the entire world. Ceaser is on his life mission and was born for this purpose. I see his schools for people and rehabilitation for dogs in the near future all over the world. He is the best trainer in the world.
I would like to know if his hand and arm have healed after the bite he got on the last show. I did not know that was the final one, I will miss him so much. After watching him I have decided to adopt a pit bull (older one) . He is such a good man and trainer and teacher. He does this with compassion to the problem ,the people and most of all the animals. I don’t understand WHY he had to be cancelled. Can someone please tell me? This new show well I don’t know . I really don’t expect an answer back, most of the time people don’t. but I do wish him well and everybody he has helped to continue to hope for the best also. I also would like to know if he is OK after that bite. I do hope ya’ll will let him come back. Thank you for your time. Joan Jordan Urmson
Ask urself what u have contributed before pointing at people! Do u think Nat Geo is stupid that spent so much money and effort on this show??? Use ur brain to think before u comment. . We support Cesar
Wow, knowing how we’re all projecting our own suppressed, repressed, disowned darker parts onto others when we take something personally and over react emotionally (vs. rationally) like the author and many commentators, it’s hard to sort fact from fiction or glean the positive from this post.
The truth is everyone’s doing the best they can, all judgement is self judgement, it’s just easier to condemn others. It’s exactly this lack of self awareness and mismanagement of emotions that Cesar warns will create instability in dogs, they’re simply a mirror for us, just like our fellow man/woman.
Haters please read the 4 Agreements, the reality of your thinking and words will become clear, compassion for all including those who oppose your viewpoint is the reward, we all have much more in common (the welfare of dogs) than otherwise.
Not everyone is ready for the simplicity of Cesar type methods & self/energy awareness, us humans like to make it more complicated than it needs to be, effectiveness is the best measure of truth.
Cesar is a Legend. I have been watching his shows for years. He helps dogs and train people. You are really jealous of him that become so famous now and no one knows who are you. . . He safe thousand dogs from red zone instead of people have to put them down. Great job that he have done. I am proud of him. .
I guess I’ll have to stop watching Nat Geo if they do away with his show. I have learned so much from him with my three dogs – his methods work! He’s a phenomenon. Nat Geo will be removing a lot of help for people and I totally resent that. I NEVER miss his show and I’ m so totally disappointed in Nat Geo.
I too am disappointed in Nat Geo. I love Cesar, he’s a man who knows how to get things done. A beautiful man….. so stop being so jealous and man up.
The problem is CM is light years ahead of idiots like this rage maniac. And that goes for all the jealous lame assed critics.
Well Ms. Anna Jane Grossman, it seems like you are a very bitter woman. Not sure why you’re so against Cesar Milan, but you should at least recognize the results he gets and stop being a hater. Judging by the response to your tirade, I’m glad that at least others appreciate his training techniques. I hope this makes you a little less catty and a lot more understanding as to the results that Mr. Milan gets.
U r nuts
I found this site by mistake. The show wan’t cancelled. It ended. Big difference. You will only hear the ‘cancelled’ from Cesar’s critics to make themselves feels better. In fact, it was Cesar that decided it was time to end it because he wanted to pursue other things like his sessions he gives owners (which are all booked), El El Lider De La Manada (his spanish show), and his tours. 9 years a long time for a show. That’s more seasons than How I Met Your Mother. If the critics played a factor, the show wouldn’t have lasted as long. Nat Geo and Nat Geo Wild’s biggest show was the Dog Whisperer. Not many were watching Cesar on Nat Geo Wild because not many get the channel. Still, but was their biggest show there still. I upgraded just to get the channel. I don’t regret it. They still pass reruns all the time. They are going to have a Cesar’s special this Thanksgiving talking about his life. I’m pretty sure they’ll keep an update on him from time to time.
BTW, I didn’t read what you wrote. You bore me with the headline. I just read some of the comments and it seems you really have some hate in you. To each their own. It’s you health, not mine. I’m a happier person, you a more bitter one. I don’t care to listen to Cesar’s critics. He helped me with his advice in many ways and that is all that matters to me. All I know, it got you talking about him. People are more aware of a dog’s problems today than ever before and doing something about it. More people are realized that the dog is not the problem, it’s the human. He did that by not being confrontational. That takes guts to that in America. He had a way with dog owners. He never judged them. He’s got the people’s skills. You can thank Cesar for that because if it wasn’t for Dog Whisperer, the discussion wouldn’t be as loud. He really did do a change for the dog world and for the better. The show does run international still. Funny, it took a Mexican with 100 dollars to do that, not someone with a golden star sticker like they give in kindergarten to do that. I’m talking about your cutout at the bottom.
Okay, I’m done giving you your 15 minutes of fame. Peace out.
I cannot believe that when I put in “what will cesar do now” on google that this is the first crappy website I got to. I read it thinking I would just get a quick overview on what Cesar is doing now, because ….yeah! I am interested. This site made my annoyed and then angry. So I definitely have to reply now. Okay first of all let me say I don’t fully agree with the putting the dog down to show dominance. I have a Shiba Inu and he will only submit for the time being and then go exactly back to what he wants to do later. Come on; so I decided to check this bloggers credentials. She just got her dog training degree in 2010 from the Karen Pryor Academy in 2010 and this academy began only in 2007 (http://thedo.gs/2012/11/training/the-pledge-i-took-to-be-a-dog-trainer-who-puts-letters-after-her-name-12235/7187/) & she states that she is an associate producer for the animal planet show “too cute” or something. So when you say that you hate Cesar and you don’t want any of his fame…come on….you do… YOU DO! I presume to be an associate producer on a show you had to shop your show around to places like ANIMAL PLANET. I will make sure to never watch that show on animal planet now. Even though I don’t agree with all of Cesar’s way I do disagree with yours. You stated ” judging by the unhappy facial expressions and body language of the dogs you pose with on book covers and promo” <–that is so 'judgey'. You stated, "I’d say it’s more like he tortures dogs and confuses people." I disagree, I have watched plenty of his shows to see that majority of the time it's the owners that causes their own dogs to react and torture them. Majority of the shows it's the owners who create havoc in their dogs. Cesar just comes into it to help them. These people ask Cesar to come in and help them and yes it's for TV so the show has to be for entertainment purposes too; you of all people should know that. You stated, "I could be all bullet point-y about why I hate you, but I’ve done that before." <–STOP THE HATE!!! You, yourself want the fame and you are really just jealous. OR else you wouldn't have shopped out a show to ANIMAL PLANET and pointed it out on your page that you're an "associate producer" of the show as you stated on your ABOUT page "TheDogs was started by journalist-turned-dog trainer Anna Jane Grossman in 2010. Grossman has written about pets for The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Gizmodo, Motherboard and ReadyMade, among other publications, and is an associate producer for the Animal Planet show Too Cute: Puppies & Kittens. She does private training consultations and teaching classes in Manhattan at her dog training facility, School For The Dogs." Please stop judging and live your own life and stop the hating. Hey, maybe you should follow the golden rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and maybe you'll gain an inch of the fame that Cesar has. I will never go to anyone like you for my dog — because I cannot respect someone who expresses their views like you do in this blog and your views just suck!!!
Smack of jealousy; the American way.
I’ve read your article as well as the replies to this article. Instead of annoyed or angry. I’m a bit surprised, perhaps even amused to some extent. Anna, stating and voicing her opinion (although, if she used legitimate resources and proof behind her reasoning, the result of the article might of taken a different turn) and the following replies doing the same (both negative and positive comments), just makes me wonder if these little drama scenes actually help cesar in dealing with haters as well as followers more effectively.
So, haters– write more and you’ll help cesar in understanding your psychology so he can counter it a thousand fold and still shine. Or haters– you can stop writing your accusations without legitimate proof and reasoning and let cesar choose his own path, just like every individual would like to do. Not to mention save yourself the time, pain and the nerves. Your choice haters.
The commentors– whether you agree or disagree with this article, hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Of course, there is a limit to everything. Although, it kinda puzzles me when replies are like “this is just a waste of time for you and for me, stop doing this…etc.”, makes me wanna ask them why are they even bothering to finish reading this if it aggrivates them and top it off with a reply like that in the first place. Haha.
Both the human and the animal worlds have so much to offer for the world, yet, it is always the humans that spread and lead their poisons at the end. –by The author of this comment ^__^
Here the simple fact if you do not agree with Mr millans methods why critacize? Why not just suggest methods you agree with instead? The truth is even though you may not agree with his methods, the facts are he has worked with and saved so many dogs that would otherwise be euthanized for their behaviors to insult honest good effort is sad, and not at all helpful from someone who says they supposedly loves dogs. Not every dog will do well with one certain training. The biggest thing is get your pet some training. You should go see the thousands being euthaized daily from owners who did NO training of any kind.
I agree with the sentiment of most of these comments. The author of this article is expressing a lot of apparently irrational negative emotion directed toward Cesar Milan, with an agenda that appears to be based primarily on envy. What a sad, hateful person she must be.
You show your ignorance with every word you typed. Facial expressions of the dogs, really!! Those picture of Cesar with his dogs and beloved pitbull look unhappy to you? You are a complete moron to say the least. Positive reinforcement does not mean turning dogs into human because they are not!! They are dogs.
You remind me of that evil cat in the Cats and Dogs movie trying to take over the world….. oh no, did you think that movie was a biography of the life of cats and dogs? I spoiled it for you, yep, its a movie they don’t really talk, plan or protect the world. They are animals, we can love them , pamper, make them friends without cross the line of stupidity.
Thanks for the posting! I have to say I am firm believe in positive training methods and have seen first hand the devastating effects that dominance based training methods can have on dogs and their owners. I also find it interesting that when having discussing how WRONG Millan’s methods are with his mindless followers their only rebuttal is that we are “jealous” of his fame. Either they are not intelligent enough to comprehend the scientific data that supports positive training and proves that dominance based training is bunk, or they are too ashamed to admit they are wrong. It is also very interesting that those who follow Millan claim he works with “red-zone” cases and that trainers like Victoria Stillwell do not. They must not have seen her show, where she has dealt with aggressive dogs with similar problems, but has managed to train them using positive methods. There is also no warning that the methods seen on the show should not be attempted without a trained professional. There are no such warnings on Stillwell’s show…instead the show is created so owners can learn techniques to use when training their dogs at home. There is so much suppressed behavior and redirected aggression on Millan’s show that it is only a matter of time before owner who use his methods are bit. Positive training is not about seeing dog’s as humans, but instead sees them as thinking beings who have the ability to learn. Owners who implement positive training methods from the start with their dogs are able to train well-behaved dogs without using confrontational methods…which provides the foundation based on love and respect, not fear! I am so glad the show is finally over! Hopefully now more people will turn to PROFESSIONAL trainers like Stillwell and Dr. Sophia Yin for training issues.
Here is a link for those who claim Millan’s methods are the best. His methods are outdated and based on research that was disproven. Time to move into the modern era.

What evidence in that article proves anything????? I read that expecting some actual scientific data that all you idiots claim to have unearthed. Besides that one experiment that provided no facts besides opinion I found nothing more than one person promoting another show. All the critics against Cesar provide no logical evidence against Cesar’s success. Thousands of dogs have been rescued by his so called abusive methods. I never ever once even considered Cesar’s methods to be violent in any capacity. Then one day I google Cesar and see these idiots who have no idea the difference between touch and hit. Then every person in is comment section who says anybody who as left a comment does not defend Cesar by stating how his methods works. Is that joke? The evidence is in the amount of dogs he has saved. The critics against Cesar try so hard to find the unsuccessful cases they ignore all the successful ones. Everyone has an agenda except for Cesar who’s compassion lies solely in the rehabilitation of each and every dog. Cesar my friend keep doing what your doing and just ignore the uneducated.
I completely disagree with the author or this post. Caesar is amazing and inspirational to watch. I am guilty of babying my gsd at times, but I never forget he is a DOG, not a human. Leaders of a pack of wild dogs will discipline a dog who is out of line, they don’t give the dog ‘positive reinforcement.’ Treat your dog like he is a dog, and you will have a much happier, less confused companion. As for the comment stating the more passive trainers do take on red zone cases, I have to say I have looked for trainers in my area, and all advertisements state: NO AGRESSIVE DOGS! So at least MOST, that I’m aware of, do not in fact take on red zone cases. Others who have commented have already stated the facts: C.M. has helped saved the lives of more dogs than any other trainer, which is why he is so well known. Now, I am a dog person. I have a passion for gsds, and have spent a lot of time researching everything there is to know about them. However, I could not pinpoint any specific name of a trainer other than C.M. He is well known for a reason. If not for his prowess with dogs, than what? It isn’t like he’s the best looking guy in the world, or the funniest, or the wittiest, because he isn’t. He is well known because of the amazing ability he has with dogs, and enough people have been impressed by him, and had their lives changed for the better, that he became the well known reputable trainer that he is today. And I’m sorry, but people aren’t saying the author is jealous just to say it. I also detected bitterness beneath her words, which is what led me to comment in the first place. I can take constructive criticism without a problem, but none if you can argue that that was CONSTRUCTIVE. That was blatantly patronizing. If it’s ok for the author to dish it out, who are any of you to defend her when others give her a taste of her own medicine? And honestly, I haven’t seen a valid argument yet to defend that ridiculous picture of the author carrying her dog in a back pack. This same kind of mentality is the reason people stopped disciplining their children. Now look what’s happened. Children these days are barely under control, and actually a lot of them are completely out of control. The tree huggers need to take a step back and allow

I think it’s insane how so many self righteous people think no one is capable of owning or training dogs except for them.
Jesus, thank you so much for this article. Cesar Millan is an idiot. Anyone who really understands the nature of dogs sees that clearly. Dogs deserve, just like kids, good teachers and favourable training, not a midget machos ego games.
when are you people going to stop and realize that they are just a dog come on get your head out of your a–.
I’m using Cesar’s techniques every day. His advise on exercise, rules and boundaries are point on. Also, rewarding your dog for being in a calm submissive state is additional great advise. So, how in the hell is that torture?
Let’s also point out everything he’s done for the Pit Bull breeds.
He’s helped rehab many dogs that most of us would have left at the pound to be euthanized because they were far too dangerous to be around humans.
Cry me a river you freakin babies. You are probably those pricks I see at the dog park that allow you dogs to mount and attack everything in sight. Meanwhile they’re simultaneously dragging you through the brush and your “clicking” away wondering what in the hell just happened.
You are so right about that. My dog taught me all about how dogs view the world and validated what Cesar says – she hates all those unbalanced overexcited dogs at the park and loved that one dog who ignored her totally and she just thought this dog was the coolest thing in the world and would kiss her feet! What is amazing to me is how all these so-called certified trainers can’t see it for themselves?! Luckily millions of “ignorant” laymen like us do!!
PS. Victoria Stillwell SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
Wahahaha totally agree!!!!
Lets not forget how many dogs lives Cesar has saved, dogs which had a very good chance of being put down. Also peoples lives that have been put back on track because of him.Cesar has the best instincts of any dog behaviourist I will say. When the guy does so much good for people and their dogs and yet gets branded cruel goes against all the time, patience, real understanding and love he has with our human companions.
Your a mindless hater. You have no concept how to train a Dog much less a problem Dog. You have to beome the leader with Dogs. In the wild they fight each other to the end establishing this. I work with Pits and Rottys that are so muscular and nibble I realize that if they were to sense fear I could well be in a fight my my life and if you panic it’s all over. Haters like you I find disgusting maybe your just miserable your life is so pathetic and your envious of Ceasar’s fame & fortune. I pity you.
Cesar Millan is not the be all end all. I used to believe he was… that his methods were best. They aren’t.
That being said- not every dog can be trained with the same method. I HATE the click, treat and repeat method. I don’t use food because the only thing I have created with treating is a nippy/sharky dog biting at my hand for food. I can admit that I am not the best at it but I do prefer to use praise as opposed to food.
I do use a lot of what Cesar says. BUT again, I do think he is misreading dogs and their calming signals (recently in particular). Take Holly for example. That entire video she was throwing calming signal after calming signal and he took it as calm submissiveness– WRONG!
I also HATE what he preaches about pit bulls. Not every APBT should be “rehabilitated”.
Some are just wired wrong and should be given a dirt nap (euthanized). HA (human aggression) is not a breed trait in an APBT. If it does display human aggression then it is genetically wired wrong and if kept alive, may put yet anther black mark on this amazing breed. NOT ALL DOGS SHOULD BE KEPT ALIVE.You should really go to Spain and have a look at the terrible conditions animals are in the Spanish perreras…
Spain has basically no animal rights and if they are any nobody gives a shit..
Dogs and cats are hung, shut, stabbed, wrapped in plastic bags and thrown in the bin, starved, kicked…the violence here has no limits…And I think it is fantastic that Cesar is coming to Spain to help some of them poor creatures to get out of this hell.
So what is your problem if he makes a show out of helping families to find there perfect pet, saving some animals on the way and educate and entertain the viewers??
Some people got nothing better to do then moan….so lame!!!glad i bookmarked this… this is funny and yet kinda amusingly disturbing. *comes back a year later to reread this* \(^w^)/ it’s STILL amusing!
-hint- this message has a slight hint on humanity <3
You don't understand Cesar because you don't understand yourself!
You are so right, Richard!
Wow that really heavy man.
You sound like a miserable old hag. Whatever your motive anyone with common sense can see that you and everyone who agrees with you are spiteful bitter people. I feel sorry for any animals that are stuck having to share in your misery. You should “euthanize” yourselves, maybe its your “wiring” that makes you awful people and makes you lack the sympathy all dog trainers/owners should have for animals of ALL BREEDS.
That's too bad that they tend to cancel shows that I believe are helpful to humans and dogs. I think someone out here (just like the jerk that wrote the article) is out for blood for some reason or another. I wonder if the dog trainers felt threatened. Dogs, are dogs! Yea, lets bring that British girl with the tight black pants for the UK. Now she was a joke! Besides Cesar never says that he trains, people yea, he rehabilitates the dogs.
Why don't they go after shows like the Housewives of NJ, Miami, Orange County, etc. etc. Now those show sure insult your intelligence and are nothing but TRASH! Brainwashing TRASH!
I hope NG reconsiders their decision in canceling a show that I enjoyed since its inception. By the way I have 5 dogs.you got to hand it to a guy, like cesar, started with nothing and made something of himself.
I have a few comments or offerings…One is to say that any method which teaches a dog to survive the shelter and make it in the real and true harsh world of humans is in my mind a good thing, also any group of folks w
hom allows the focus or wrath to be on a training method rather than the failure of our country to train or raise our dogs as we lose over 6 million a year in shelter is a distraction from what is truly happening a mass slaughter due to ignorance, and lastly but certainly not least…The reality as we see it on the ground is simple, we are dealing with many aggressive bullying violently behaving dogs daily folks, and they are not abused either unless we begin to see that pampering and raising dogs without respect knowledge or structure abuse, which I truly hope we begin to. Yet for those out there who feel like every life lesson, every path altering lesson must be a happy feel good moment for dog, human , child alike, this is sadly not the reality rather the pipe dream, unfortunately some of our best and deepest life lessons come from the rock bottom moments the things that we stop us in our tracks…Those willing to endure lifes tuff lessons most often wind up coming out the other side with new and beautiful perspectives while those who choose to avoid such transformative lessons remain stuck in the muck…We deal with the dog personalities that life gives us and though we try our hardest to keep our lessons fun, we also remain committed to walk through the aggression and ugliness with our eye's wide open, we do not judge the dogs for their aggression nor the work of those who work to stop it, rather what we do keep our focus on is simple, we focus on the life that any trainers training creates for the dog who has needed rehabilitation…Also I would like to add, for those who may say that Cesar's method is for last chance animals I would say this…Many of the dogs who come to trainers are actually on their last chance, a sad reality that many dog lovers fail to train their dogs, it is surely high time that folks begin to understand there is a vast difference between puppy training and rehab. If we liken it to humans one is prison work release while the other is kindergarten and most talented trainers are capable of both so if we paint a trainer in the middle of performing a dangerous rehab and paint them with the tainted rehab brush as if they are incapable of a simple puppy training it becomes the carrot ahead of the cart as learning to puppy train comes first and learning to rehab happens later out of a sad humanitarian reality…
The real issues…Pits and Bullys are under fire and negative press. Pits and Bullys are being focused on with every dog fight mauling and child harmed. Humans are sitting around arguing and vying for the limelight via technique debate, while the dogs we love are losing life, limb, and freedoms daily, they are becoming illegal. Fact. Those capable of raising safe dogs must do so by all means and share with all so that these dogs can be saved. Fact if we continue to bash those who work the hardest they will soon no longer be around to bash and the dogs will ultimately fail…I personally care to see our dogs truly learn to live in harmony and the light how about you !
The person you wrote this is an idiot and should try working with a pack of dogs without this incite and see what happens. work with dogs for a living and Cesar has help me really maintain the leader of the pack.
He does kind of have a point, though. Why are you sending folks to Spain to compete to adopt a dog when there are plenty of full local shelters that will let you adopt without all the jumping through hoops?
I'm guessing the writer of the article isn't a paid writer. They never really explained their point about their dislike for Cesar. Since I've never watched the show, this article misses its point.
The idea of the game show format to adopt a dog is a bit odd though.because it was the only way he could stay aired they took his show off.
I have seen his new show and those of you who think it is ludicrous to fly ppl in to compete for the privilege of adopting these dogs have obviously not watched the show. The dogs that are up for adoption on his new show are ones that would never be adopted in a shelter due to major issues. If not for Cesar these dogs would be put to sleep or live the rest of their lives in the shelters. Yes there are plenty of dogs available and there are plenty of ppl out there to adopt them, however, there are not many willing to take on dogs with issues. Cesar finds the right family for these dogs and teaches them how to handle and work with these dogs who otherwise would NEVER be adopted.
I know his methods helped with my armpit parana chihuahua.I learned to put him on the ground and let learn how to be a confidant little dog instead a insecure one.It worked people can actually pet him now with me holding him and actually not be bleeding. He learned he had legs too.Two years later he confidantly runs around at the dog park with big dogs and has fun instead of screaming in panic and hiding around my feet begging to be picked up.I decided when to pick him up ,not him
So sad that I read your blog only because it was about Ceasar Millan. So pathetic that your blog gets read because of your vindictive tirade against Cesar. Perhaps your jealousy over not having his public persona and appeal drives you to write such dribble.
anyone who thinks cesar is bad is an idiot… period!
I am a professional dog trainer and I specialize in problem dogs, the dogs I and cesar deals with are not "normal" and it is always extreme when dealing with a "reallly" aggressive dog, if anyone thinks cookies and love will take away aggression from a dog is just a plain charlatan!I truly miss "The Dog Whisperer" and I wish the Travel Channel would put it back on! I watched it all the time and Cesar has taught me so much I did not no about dogs! I have used so many of his tips and they all work for me and I am one crazy Dog Person! Please bring he show back!
Young man, I have been training dogs for over 50 years. I’m curious to how long you have been at it, as to be so clueless on the topic. Ceaser really is spot on. It would do you so much good to maybe go find a homeless dog and ap
And put into practic his techniques. I believe that it would be a enlightening experience for you to see things less harshly. You would really have to work at it. When you succeed please write your glowing retraction on Ceaser millan.
To the writer of this poor excuse for a media article, you are one of the most ignorant and insensitive people to have ever disgraced the wonders and networking benefits of what we now call the internet. From your pathetic jabs to your accusations of torture and ironic use of the adjective repulsive, you have not only disgusted and repulsed me but all of those who read your nonsense and admire and respect Cesar. Your attempts to talk down on a man whom you don't even know trouble me because all it says is that you have nothing better to do than write an negative article about a MAN WHO SAVES AND REHABILITATES TROUBLED HOPELESS DOGS. If you can "hate" someone whom you don't even know, all that really says about you is that you are a miserable lonely person who does not have their own friends and peers to "hate" and find things wrong with. NOONE is competing over a dog, the show serves as a purpose of AWARENESS and education regarding the "unadoptable" dogs and in a perfect world, might make someone think twice about the dog that has been in the shelter for over a year and faces being euthanized if not adopted in the near future. THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD THAT ADOPT DOGS but how many of them will adopt the dog that is afraid of their own shadow.. not many! And because of Cesar and his show the dog whisperer, I decided to rescue a dog that needed a chance to learn to trust someone. DO YOU GET IT? I adopted a dog that wouldn't even look at me because Cesar has raised awareness that dogs can change and dogs need guidance, structure, discipline and encouragement. And do not be confused my purpose of this comment… it is not in an effort to defend Cesar but more to rebut your sad excuse for entertainment on behalf of those who rescue and volunteer to raise awareness of the unfortunate overpopulation of homeless animals everywhere. It is unfortunate you cannot understand the rewarding feeling of providing a life to a hopeless shelter dog.

These comments have been accumulating now for many months and I didn’t read all of them but do you have any additional comments or proof how bad he is or are you secretly raising support for his new show. You certainly stirred up a lot of anger and support concerning Caesar so maybe you are a closet lover of the whisperer and you have posters and pictures all over your walls. You have every episode on DVR and dream of being with him one day maybe doing a show together even? So this is just a diversion from the thruth that you worship him. Do you have any response or are you to busy watching past episodes?Another redundant, unintelligent Cesar-is-a-bad-guy post. Instead of writing such a ranting, whiny, negative article, why not take the opportunity to bring attention to a cause that promotes animal welfare (i.e. the adoption of troubled dogs). Cesar's new show brings much needed attention to shelter dogs, and people should embrace that regardless of whether the backdrop is cheesy. Perhaps the author needs to reexamine her priorities.
what energy do you have? jelousy? from what i read, u in unstable condition of emotional feelings lol. cesar’s way is logic. if u smart, u must know how human talking to the dog. barking? bribe the dog? its a dog, not a human, respect it like a dog, n u r is human of course. the dog more sensitive with what energy u bring. even if u use negative energy n bring it to ur family, u will making wrong decision. u can lie with ur tongue, but u cannot lie with ur energy. if u have stable energy, u can control urself, u’ll never write a negative statement, with judging others, coz this makes u more like what u say (A**hole). if u logic enough to read again what u write with objective side, u will realize that. if u had a good method, prove it! makes some result! not just sit n cry about it. ppl put in effort, action n have rewards, u just critism, hope u will have more popularity. cesar have a dreams to fight for, n u making laugh of it. do u brave enough to fight for ur dreams? why not u make a prove? why not now?
I loved “Jorge’s” response bemoaning the poor grammar and spelling, and that there was no excuse with spell check, etc, being available. Hilarious! The guy made SEVEN ERRORS in his sentence or two! SEVEN! And he’s berating someone for bad spelling??
You have no idea what you are talking about. Cesar Millan made his success and "cult followers" as you say because his methods work, people want to follow what he does with his pet because it works and that is proven time and time again. I am greatly disappointed that I read your blog thinking it was something positive about Cesar Millan, little did I know, it is you hating on him. You say that you are not jealous, I disagree! I think you are very jealous that he took a career that doesn't get too much media and notice and made a very successful career out of it, while teaching dogs and owners the RIGHT way to do it.
Get over yourself. Read some of the above comments. you seem to be very uninformed on dog behaviour. Your comments and venom towards Cesar Milan show a total lack of class. Whether on not you agree with his methods try not to sound like a spoiled miffed child

wow, Anna Jane Grossman, your a joke to journalism and reporting but a massive success as a troll and to get reactions. I understand this article was written in 2012 but have unfortunately only just stumbled across this dribble now by accident, hence my response.
That Caesar guy has likely saved more animals lives than you have collected paychecks for writing this type of dribble. Your a sad human being for writing such biased material about anybody that goes out of his/her way to help the helpless, be it humans or animals. The man has saved countless dog lives because us, humans, master of all domains, failed to be able to handle and exist with or ‘own’ a dog.
I hope you do understand that this guy does not walk in to a happy house with a little shiatsu that is 6 months old that he is trying to toilet train. He is dealing most of the time, unfortunately, with big dogs that think they own the house, because of stupid owners that dont know how to take care of a dog.
The shows i have seen are generally big dogs with big bloody teeth, bad habits and are a few years old. They have been able to get away with things and when it gets too much the owners just put them in the Pound like its a forgettable and disposable toy that’s outlived its use. The troubled dogs have been able to run the house, get their way, growl, bark and bite whoever and whenever due to very poor ‘ownership’ ie us the humans!. Anna Jane Grossman, Whether you like dogs or not, the guy goes in and does what he does, their is no denying he has a thing with and for dogs and has saved countless dog lives.
Just to surmise ” judging by the unhappy facial expressions and body language of the dogs you pose with” Anna Jane Grossman are you a vet, dog psychologist, professional dog handler, K9 unit, anything? apparently you have certified yourself as someone that can judge dog facial expressions and hence write such dribble, whats your qualification to make these claims, ahhh just an internet warrior that’s looking for a reaction, i thought as much, and you got one. Stay off the internet please you may just fool other idiots like yourself with this crap.
I agree with your author wholeheartedly. Cesar Millan is a terrible dog trainer and people who follow his methods should throw his books out and buy anything written by Martin McKenna, Jan Fennell or Victoria Stilwell. Just have a look at this. http://youtu.be/buUHYM9ymc8 The man is cruel. Do not follow his ‘small man syndrome’ advice.

This article is hilarious! The envy and self-righteousness behind it are quite evident. Thing is, in the grand scheme of things nothing will change, there will always be haters like this author. Cesar has a massive following and has garnered lots of respect through all the minutes, hours, days…. YEARS of work that he has put into working with dogs. In all the time that I have watched Cesars shows I have never once heard him shoot down other dog trainers or berate methods tried by others, at least not in the same way that the author of this article is prattling on. Does the numpty author not get it? By constantly writing negative articles about Cesar you are not destroying his reputation. You are only damaging your own image by making yourself look like a complete tool because you can’t handle the fact that a short Mexican man who crossed into the USA with no money in his pocket managed to make it in life through hard work and dedication to something he believes in. In any case there will always be people like this author who will constantly spout drivel ridden articles to make their self-inflated egos feel better. The bottom line is, we will never know the mind of a dog (or any animal) because….well….we're not dogs (at least time I checked lol). In light of this revelation one has to observe what we have and that is, Cesars methods work and they probably work quicker and better than other methods but hey each to their own and nobody is forcing anyone to follow Cesars methods 🙂
Cesars fans are as loyal as dogs. Cesar got this fan base not by being cruel or inhumane but by being honest and doing what is best for the dog. Some people just have nothing to complain about and have to dream up things to make their meaningless lives more interesting. Submission does not equal fear. Cesar has never hit a dog.. I dont get it, people talk about how he ‘hits’ a dog yet the dog he might have corrected was probably literally going for his throat, or actually biting him. I guess it’s ok for the dog to draw blood, but not ok for Cesar to correct the behavior by distracting the mind. I wonder if some people have even owned dogs before. Once a dog with a high prey drive gets into the ‘zone’ of going after something, you yelling his name or calling him back to you is not going to make one bit of difference to that dog. He’s not going to stop until he’s killed whatever it was he was going after. Snapping him out of this ‘zone’ before he reacts is crucial to teach the correct, or more appropriate behavior! I truly am sad to see the dog whisperer go, but thank NatGeoWild for posting so many episodes on youtube.

Thanks a lot! What a sad rant against someone who has helped me and many others so much with my attitude towards my dogs and myself. It just drips with jealousy and hatred. You need a muzzle.
I believe the reason why many so called trainers are against Cesar is because they are not comfortable with the intuitive approach he uses which they don’t understand if they haven’t got the intuition themselves. In order to use his methods you have to read the dog correctly, sometimes in a micro-second – Cesar is a natural and I doubt anyone else can communicate with dogs that well.
Besides his in-born talent, I believe it’s his love and compassion for dogs which he has observed his whole life which has brought him to this level. Which means it cannot be articulated into a rule book that can be taught and followed like what many trainers do. That is why I have my utmost respect for those trainers who put down their egos and realise they are looking at something bigger than all the book training they have ever received. These are the trainers who will continually improve their skills just like Cesar and will be the ones to help red zone dogs around the world.
For those of you who look at Cesar and only see “abuse” just because you cannot accept a few hours of discomfort for a dog (which most of the time it brought upon itself eg struggling at the end of a leash) which will transform its whole life, I say it’s your loss, not his.
You probably should have listened to the advice given you by your PR buddies because they were correct, it does sound like sour grapes. Nothing screams success like success so if you are not as successful as the individuals your are criticizing what else could it possibly be?
We are just tired of trying to be rational, scientific and educated about animal behavior. People who drank the kool aid will defend him no matter what. His methods work on a 30 min highly produced show. There are trainers out there who have trained champion performance dogs (all off leash) using better methods. Cesar Milan can't even control his dogs off-leash.
because he does harm people, he really does harm to the dogs he works with and much more important than that he causes thousands of people to follow a philosophy that has been proven wrong and ineffective so goddamn much but you never saw that on tv and you only believe what you see on tv and never actually read what the research is on recent dog psychology, he is wrong people he is harmful I can not stress this enough here's a little post that makes good points about what I'm referring to as harmful http://barkaroundtown.wordpress.com/2012/01/15/whats-wrong-with-cesar-millan-and-dominance-based-dog-training/ and basically dominance based training should not exist in this day and age…… also one more point if you think he works with extreme cases he should not be advising this approach to general public, these people make you believe all your dogs are extreme cases when in fact they have excess energy and need to be exercised not f*cking pinned down -.- 99.9% of dogs' behaviour problems are resolved with adequate exercise in a humane environment.
Peeka Flibberty-Jibbets When did you see him being unable to control his own dogs on/off the leash?! I am not a fan of Cesar. But most of his methods DO work. And why do they work? Because he focuses on the individual dog. There can never be THE one and only method. Neither entirely positive nor entirely aversive training will work. You always have to focus on the dog in front of you. I have met rather shy dog trainers who were able to work very well with some dogs, but not all dogs, especially not with dogs drifting into the "red zone". Other, more dominant trainers (who did NOT hurt the dogs!) were much better when working with these kind of dogs. I am not saying that this HAS to be the case. It is just MY experience. And this is why I do not agree with those criticisms about Cesar.
I am so relieved to read your comment. I was beginning to think I am the only one who thinks as you do, almost word for word. Absolutely. I would like to copy and paste your comment to too many people for it to be worth my while!!!! Lol!! 😀
Peeka Flibberty-Jibbets Shut up.
One word for all you Cesar haters……DILLIGAF! AND HE DOESN'T, FOR SURE!
Thank goodness for trainers like you. I understand dogs. I don't have a piece of paper to say so, but I've trained more dogs in the last 45 years than I could shake a stick at!!! I told someone today to use their bloody clicker method and positive reward based stuff to a charging pit bull, and wished them luck. Stupid ****s. 🙂
I had already adopted a fear aggressive dog which had been abused. He was a year old and I wondered what to do. I was perfectly used to raising dogs, but such a troubled (&powerful) dog? I happened to see The Dog Whisperer and thank god. It took two years but that dog had 9 more years of life, entirely thanks to Cesar Millan.
All I can say is you must have your eyes checked. If it wasn’t for Cesar I would not have the success I have had with my dogs. By the way do you even own a dog? How anyone could talk this way about a man with so much love and spirit for other people and animals is beyond me. Maybe you are one of those people with built up anxiety, anger and frustration that needs Cesar yourself.
What a bitter a-hole.
You naysayers are funny. This man says three words that other trainers in the public eye forget to say , "GO WITH NATURE" . Those words give me every every reason I need to be absolutely confident in his abilities. These dogs don't fear him, they respect him. He is as rough with them as they would be with each other. Actually less rough than they would be with each other. Don't be so sensitive and bitter!! His methods are sound. I didn't drink his kool aid, I just know an animal whisperer when I see one. He got his shows for a reason. It's not like they just pulled some dude off the street and said, "here, work with dogs". He got the job because of his reputation for knowing the hell it is that he is doing. GO WITH NATURE!
Eleanor Khachadourian , except for where Peeka Flibberty-Jibbetsis absolutely right. Not many actual dog trainers, and absolutely no animal behaviorists, agree with much of what the man says. He's great for public consumption, but that sound you hear every time his show airs is the sound of experts everywhere face-planting into their desks.

Ceasar Milan does NOT train dogs; he tortures them with fear and pain of the Cicada Collar (metal prongs into the dogs trachea (windpipe)
As a 4’10” tall, 102 pound woman, I can take any dog before he’s ruined them and train them not to be agressive or act out with bad habits, within one week. I WILL NEVER NEED TO USE PAIN & FEAR TO GAIN THE STATUS OF “PACK LEADER”.
I’d like to offer this cruel man, who plays to the camera, a deal; I will train the most agressive dog without using the Cicada collar or spikes into the upper throat nor will I apply a choker collar using the wrong application.
WILL CEASAR TAKE MY CHALLENGE?
A compassionate, seasoned dog trainer, dog lover and Registered Nurse, I would not treat my worst enemy, LET ALONE MAN’S BEST FRIEND, the way Caesar Milan makes dogs worse off if his “alleged professional training” destroys a canine’s innate drive to respect & please their human pack leaders.
